Non-Conformance Reports

Non-conformance reports generally come from an ISO 9001 quality management system, and are about capturing a missed objective. That could be anything from a defect on a product manufacturing line, to a workplace health and safety breach, or even just a failure to correctly apply a business processes. That failure can be internal, or can be external to the organisation and yet still require acute control.

When an nonconformity is identified:

  1. Create a non-conformance report (NCR). This is an on-the-spot form design to capture what happened. It's important to understand that it's not the responsibility of the non-conformance report to identify and plan for a final solution, it's only designed to capture the instance of the nonconformity.
  2. The most directly responsible parties are the auditees, and they're issued with a copy of the report.
  3. A qualified person devises an action plan to ensure the nonconformity is addressed. Corrective Action Register (CAR) items are created and allocated to their assigned parties. This includes both (short-term) and preventative (long-term) corrective actions.
  4. Corrective Action Register (CAR) items are emailed to the assigned parties.
  5. As CAR items are are completed, their status is tracked and updated.
  6. The finalised report is issued to the asignee's
